Why Do We Give?

Think about The Journey... What comes to mind? Maybe it’s the Sunday mornings when you gather with others of all ages and backgrounds to worship and hear God's Word. Maybe it’s the friendships that have grown around a table, the people who have walked alongside you through a difficult season, or the ways your faith has been strengthened. Maybe it’s the opportunities to serve, the care you've experienced, or the knowledge that people in our city are being loved and supported through the work happening beyond our church walls.

All of these things are part of the life of The Journey, and they are largely made possible by people who faithfully give of their time, gifts, and resources.

Faithful giving draws me closer to God and His priorities

“Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts are also” - Matthew 6:12

Faithful giving is the key to a full life

“Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and should give generously... By doing this they will be storing up treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may take hold of a life that is truly life.

- 1 Timothy 6:18-19

Faithful giving blesses me in return

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough in my Temple. ‘if you do’ says the Lord, ‘I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Let me proveit to you!’” - Malachi 3:10

Faithful giving reminds me that everything belongs to God

“Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth” - Deuteronomy 8:18

  • WHAT AM I GIVING TOWARDS?

The General Fund is the fund that goes directly to making our ministries and operations happen. This includes our regular programming, staffing, and facilities. Please consider giving to this fund on an ongoing basis, as the ministry of The Journey is also ongoing.

The Generosity Fund is the fund out of which we care for needs that are beyond our church walls. This includes support for neighbor organizations (such as supplies for a local school or our annual Thanksgiving Generosity Project) as well as urgent needs that may arise due to crisis. Some choose to give regularly to this fund and others give as opportunities are presented, giving in addition to regular contributions to the General Fund.

Other funds are made available as specific opportunities arise, such as our Student Scholarship Fund that provides opportunities for our student to attend special events or the various world missions relationships we have.

  • WHO IS ACCOUNTABLE FOR BUDGETING AND HOW THE FUNDS ARE USED?

The Journey Church Council oversees the budgeting and spending practices of the church and presents financial figures to leadership on a regular basis. Weekly updates are provided weekly in our digital bulletin and financial figures are available to anyone at anytime. If you would like to receive a copy, email Daniel@thejourneyma.org

  • HOW MUCH DO I GIVE?

We encourage you to make giving a priority rather than simply giving what's left over. Pray, consider what you have, and choose an amount you can give faithfully and joyfully. Remember, it's not about how much you have to give, but how you faithfully steward what God has given you.

The Bible often points to the tithe (10%) as a model of giving, but the heart behind our giving matters. We each have different circumstances and resources, and giving is an opportunity to worship God, trust Him, and participate in the work He is doing through The Journey.

We encourage you to prayerfully consider what faithful giving looks like in your life and to give with a willing and thankful heart.
